EV Charging Guide for Long Road Trips in Saudi Arabia
Taking an EV road trip from Riyadh to Jeddah, Dammam, or AlUla? Here's your practical guide to charging stations and planning.

A long road trip in an EV across Saudi Arabia was impossible 3 years ago — but today the fast-charging network covers the main highways. Here's a practical guide to the major routes and charging stations.
Riyadh → Jeddah (900 km): The most popular EV route. Fast chargers available in Dawadmi, Afif, Al-Rass, Al-Zulfi, and Jeddah. Most stations are operated by EVIQ (a Saudi public charging network) and other operators. You'll need two charging stops for 400 km-range EVs, one stop for 500+ km EVs. Average fast-charge time is 30 minutes to go from 20% to 80%.
Riyadh → Makkah (870 km): Similar route to Jeddah, branching after Dawadmi. Stations before Makkah in Turbah and Asheera. Note: some stations work only with dedicated cards — get an EVIQ card or charging app ready before traveling.
Riyadh → Dammam (395 km): A comfortable distance on a single charge for most EVs. Optional stop in Al-Jazra at a 150 kW station. Round trip no problem for any modern EV.
Riyadh → AlUla (1100 km): A challenge requiring careful planning. Charging stations in Buraydah, Hail, and Tayma — most are mid-speed (50 kW). Plan for 3 charging stops and book a hotel with a charger if possible.
Essential apps before traveling: EVIQ (a major Saudi public charging network), PlugShare (shows various stations), A Better Route Planner (precisely calculates your trip based on your car).
Practical tips: start the trip at 100%, drive at 110-120 km/h (not 140) to conserve battery, precondition the AC while still at the charger, carry a backup Level 2 cable in case of a broken station. EVS offers pre-trip inspections: full battery check, DC fast charging system test, cooling system check, and tire review. Book an inspection before your next trip. For commercial fleets or destinations needing high-capacity DC charger installation along key routes, our sister company Climatech (SEC-certified) handles installation from site survey to civil infrastructure — capacities up to 400 kW.
