EV Charging Guide for Long Road Trips in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh → Jeddah (900 km): This is the most popular EV route. Fast chargers are available in Dawadmi, Afif, Al-Rass, Al-Zulfi, and Jeddah. Most stations are run by EVIQ (a Saudi public charging network) and other operators. EVs with 400 km range need two charging stops, and EVs with 500+ km range need one. A fast charge from 20% to 80% takes 30 minutes on average.

Riyadh → Makkah (870 km): The route is similar to Jeddah and branches off after Dawadmi. There are stations before Makkah in Turbah and Asheera. Some stations only work with their own cards, so get an EVIQ card or charging app ready before you travel.

Riyadh → Dammam (395 km): Most EVs can cover this distance on a single charge. There is an optional stop at a 150 kW station in Al-Jazra. Any modern EV can do the round trip.

Riyadh → AlUla (1100 km): This route needs careful planning. There are charging stations in Buraydah, Hail, and Tayma, and most of them are mid-speed (50 kW). Plan for 3 charging stops, and book a hotel with a charger if you can.

Apps to install before you travel: EVIQ (a major Saudi public charging network), PlugShare (shows stations from many operators), and A Better Route Planner (calculates your trip based on your car).

Practical tips: start the trip at 100%, drive at 110-120 km/h (not 140) to save battery, precondition the AC while you are still at the charger, and carry a backup Level 2 cable in case a station is broken.
