Buying a Used EV in Saudi Arabia? Here's Why You Need a Pre-Purchase Inspection

The used electric vehicle market in Saudi Arabia is booming. With thousands of Teslas, BYDs, and other EVs now past their first ownership cycle, there are great deals to be found. But there are also potential money pits. A professional pre-purchase inspection can save you from a costly mistake.

Battery health is the most critical factor in any used EV purchase. A battery replacement is the most expensive single repair an EV owner can face — making a battery health check the single most important step before buying any used EV. At EVS, our pre-purchase inspection includes a comprehensive battery health check that measures state of health (SOH), capacity degradation, cell balance, and charging performance. We can tell you exactly how much life is left in the battery.

Accident history matters differently for EVs. In a traditional car, you might overlook minor body damage. In an EV, even a seemingly minor collision can damage high-voltage cables, battery housing, or safety systems that are hidden from view. Our inspection includes a full underbody scan to check for any signs of previous impact damage to the battery pack and high-voltage components.

Software and firmware status: Some used EVs are sold with outdated software, locked features, or even aftermarket modifications that can cause problems. We check the software version, verify all features are functional, and identify any modifications or concerning diagnostic codes.

Chinese EV imports deserve extra scrutiny. Many used Zeekr, LiXiang, and NIO vehicles in the Saudi market were originally sold in China and imported by third parties. These vehicles may have different specifications (voltage, charging standards, software language) that need to be verified. Our inspection checks that all specifications have been properly converted for Saudi use.

What our pre-purchase inspection covers: full battery health analysis, high-voltage system integrity check, motor and drivetrain testing, brake system inspection, suspension and steering check, AC and thermal management test, software diagnostic scan, body and paint inspection, tire condition assessment, and a complete test drive evaluation.

The inspection takes approximately 2-3 hours and provides you with a detailed report including photos. This small investment gives you the confidence to make an informed buying decision. Many of our customers have avoided purchasing vehicles with hidden problems that would have cost them tens of thousands of riyals.

Book a pre-purchase EV inspection at any EVS branch or through our mobile service — we can come to the seller's location.
